Thousands of Spotify users across the UK and beyond have reported issues with the music streaming platform, as both the app and website appear to be experiencing a widespread outage.
According to the outage monitoring site DownDetector, more than 17,000 users have flagged problems with the service. The majority of reports (69%) relate to the mobile app, with 30% citing issues with the website, and 1% reporting issues with audio streaming.
Is Spotify Down?
While Spotify has yet to officially confirm the outage, many users have turned to social media to express their frustrations. On X (formerly Twitter), complaints flooded in as the service faltered.
“Is Spotify being weird rn or just me?” asked one user.
Another posted: “Why is Spotify not f****g working AGAIN.”
In response, @SpotifyCares, Spotify’s official customer service account on X, has been replying to users and offering help, though no formal statement about the cause of the issue has been released at the time of writing.
What Is Downdetector?
Downdetector is an independent outage tracking website that allows users to report and monitor real-time problems with digital services including Spotify, Instagram, Facebook, X, Netflix, and even banking platforms.
Describing itself as the place “where people go when services don’t work,” Downdetector collects and validates issue reports submitted by users. It also monitors signals from social media and other online platforms. Once report levels spike above the average threshold, the platform declares an incident.
Users visiting Downdetector can see a live status dashboard showing the most reported problems and whether their region is among current outage hotspots.
What’s Next for Users?
At present, there is no estimated time for when the Spotify service will be fully restored. Users experiencing issues are encouraged to:
- Follow @SpotifyCares for live updates
- Report any disruptions via Downdetector
- Keep an eye on Spotify’s official status page or help centre
