British Tourists Issued Urgent Terror Warning Amid ‘High Threat’ of Attacks in Madagascar

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a heightened terror alert for British nationals travelling to Madagascar, citing a “high threat of terrorist attacks”.

The warning comes amid a global increase in threats to UK interests, with the FCDO cautioning that terrorist groups or individuals may target British citizens abroad, even in destinations with no recent history of terrorism.

“There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals,” the FCDO said in its updated advice. “Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.”

No Recent Attacks – But Risk Cannot Be Ruled Out

While Madagascar has not experienced recent terrorist incidents, the FCDO warned that the risk remains, especially in areas frequented by foreign nationals, such as tourist resorts, hotels, airports and cultural landmarks.

“Terrorist attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreign nationals,” the advisory stated.

UK officials advised travellers to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines, including those issued by UK Counter Terrorism Policing, which provides information on what to do in the event of a terrorist incident abroad.
