David Blann, 36, of East Preston, has been handed a suspended jail sentence after hitting West Sussex supermarkets for over £1,400 worth of goods. Between March and July, Blann carried out 25 thefts and one attempted shoplift across multiple stores.

Quick Arrest and Guilty Plea

Blann was caught red-handed on 18 July and charged the same day. He didn’t fight the charges, pleading guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court. On 22 September, Worthing Magistrates sentenced him to 17 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Police Condemn Retail Crime Impact

Sussex Police slammed Blann’s spree for causing havoc in supermarkets and hitting businesses hard. Sergeant Amelia Roberts said:

“Retail crime has a real impact on shop workers and the community. We remain committed to tackling offenders and supporting businesses.”

Operation Apprentice Targets Repeat Shoplifters

The crackdown forms part of Operation Apprentice, Sussex Police’s mission to stamp out repeat shoplifting and shield local stores from theft and disruption.
