Confusion and frustration are mounting after changes to the UK’s Covid-19 vaccine eligibility rules left some people booted from booking slots.
Who’s Actually Eligible?
- Anyone aged 75 or over, including those turning 75 by 31 January 2026
- Adults and children aged six months to 74 years with weakened immune systems due to health conditions or treatment
- Residents of care homes for older adults
Those outside these groups have reportedly been turned away, sparking anger and claims of a confusing rollout.
NHS Staff Report Booking Chaos
Frontline NHS workers say patients arrive hopeful, only to be told they don’t meet the new qualifying criteria. Many blame poor communication for the muddled message.
“We encourage everyone eligible to book their COVID-19 vaccine. Our priority remains protecting those at highest risk from serious illness over the winter,” said a Department of Health spokesperson.
Experts Warn: Don’t Skip Your Jab
Health experts urge older adults and vulnerable people to get vaccinated. Covid remains a risk, especially through winter months.
The NHS advises people to check the eligibility criteria before booking and to contact their GP surgeries if unsure.
