Tragic news as the body discovered on Southport Beach has been identified as George Norwell, the 77-year-old man reported missing from Preston.

Police Launch Desperate Search

George was last seen by family in Whittle-le-Woods at 9.30am on Saturday, 4th October. His blue Ford Focus was found abandoned near the River Ribble in Preston at around 10.30am—but George was nowhere to be found.

Lancashire Police, alongside Lancashire Fire and Rescue and HM Coast Guard, launched a major search operation to find him.

Grim Confirmation from Merseyside Police

The breakthrough came on Monday morning when Merseyside Police discovered a man’s body washed up on Southport Beach. After thorough investigations, police confirmed the body was George Norwell.

“This is not the outcome that anyone wanted, and our thoughts are with George’s family at this distressing time,” said a Lancashire Police spokesperson.

George’s family has been informed and is receiving support amid the heartbreaking news.

Community In Mourning

Officials expressed gratitude to the public for sharing the missing persons appeal.

“Thank you to everyone who shared our missing appeal, it is always very much appreciated,” added police.
