Police launched the operation around 4pm, sealing off Rosedale Road, Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road, and Malham Drive. Residents described a chaotic scene with emergency services everywhere.

Cordon In Place, Experts On Scene

The Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is now inspecting the suspected items under police supervision. Kent Fire and Rescue is also on site assisting the operation.

A cordon remains in place while officials carefully assess the risk. Thanet District Council has stepped in to support evacuated residents, using Hartsdown Leisure Centre as an evacuation hub.

Local Authorities Urge Calm

Cllr Jack Saunders (Lab), representing Dane Valley ward, reassured residents: “There is no cause for concern at this stage. The situation is being handled carefully and professionally. Teams are working hard to ensure everyone affected is safe and well looked after. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Kent Fire and Rescue confirmed crews were called to assist Kent Police but offered no further details.

One Arrest Made

Police have arrested one individual in connection with the incident as investigations continue.

Officials have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the suspicious items but stress the precautionary evacuations were necessary to keep the community safe.
