A Macclesfield woman has been locked up for five years after stabbing her partner in a savage attack.

Leanne Melling, 34, of Ripon Close, Whitefield, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday 6 October where she pleaded guilty to a section 18 assault.

Violent Row Turns Deadly

The court heard that the couple had been arguing all day on Sunday 19 January. The victim tried to cool things down by sleeping in a separate room.

Melling, however, followed him, determined to continue the fight. When he refused to engage, she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen.

In a struggle to disarm her, the victim also suffered a serious stab wound to his hand.

Fortunately, he managed to overpower Melling, threw the knife across the room, and locked her in. He then called 999 for help.

Swift Police Action and Sentencing

Police arrived quickly and arrested Melling at the scene. Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

Police Speak Out

Detective Sergeant Steven Kaminski: “This was an extremely violent attack which left an innocent man seriously injured and fearing for his life.”

“Melling’s actions are completely unacceptable. The sentence reflects the horror she inflicted on the victim.”

“While the victim will never forget what happened, I hope the sentence provides some closure and helps him move on.”

Detective Constable Oliver Neilson-Bird: “No one should suffer this kind of abuse in any relationship.”

“I commend the victim for his bravery in coming forward. I hope he can rebuild his life after this trauma.”

“Domestic violence can affect anyone. If you are a victim, please reach out for help. You will be listened to, and support is available.”
