PayPal is down, leaving millions of users worldwide unable to access their accounts or make payments after a sudden outage this afternoon.
Login Fails and App Issues
Reports of login problems have surged on DownDetector, with many users blocked from entering the popular payment app. The troubles also affect in-store contactless payments and money transfers.
Customers receiving error messages saying: “We’re having some trouble completing your request right now. Please try again shortly, and if it persists let us know.”
PayPal Responds Amid Rising Frustration
PayPal’s customer service took to X (formerly Twitter) to acknowledge the disruption:
“We understand the inconvenience you are facing at the moment. Please be assured that our team is working on the ongoing issue and will try to resolve it at the earliest.”
With over 434 million active users globally and over 10 million websites relying on PayPal for payments, this outage has hit hard.
Venmo Also Affected in the US
US-based users also report problems with Venmo, PayPal’s sister app. One frustrated user vented on social media about being “locked out of my money” amid the service issues.
A PayPal spokesperson said “PayPal and Venmo experienced a brief service disruption that has since been resolved.”
