MAJOR BLAZE Fire Erupts at Dhaka Airport Cargo Terminal, Grounding Flights

Major Blaze Disrupts Operations

A massive fire broke out at Bangladesh’s busiest airport, Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International, causing flight delays and diversions on Saturday. Officials confirmed that both domestic and international flights have been affected as the flames tore through the cargo terminal.

Firefighting Efforts in Full Swing

Thirty-six firefighting teams, backed by the army, navy, and air force, scrambled to contain the inferno, according to Talha Bin Zasim from the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell. Airport official Masudul Hasan reassured the public stating all aircraft on site are safe but confirmed airport operations were suspended.

Flights Diverted Amid Chaos

  • An IndiGo flight from Delhi was rerouted to Kolkata.
  • An Air Arabia plane from Sharjah diverted to Chittagong.
  • A Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong circled in the air after failing to land.

Recent Fires Raise Alarm

Authorities have yet to determine the fire’s cause. This airport incident follows two other deadly blazes this week in Bangladesh, including a garment factory fire that killed at least 16 people and another blaze at a factory in Chittagong’s export zone.

“Thirty-six firefighting units are working to douse the flames,” confirmed Talha Bin Zasim.

Stay tuned for updates as emergency services battle to bring the fire under control and get operations back on track.
