Man Charged with Murder After Woman Found Stabbed in Bournemouth

Detectives have charged a man with murder following the tragic death of 26-year-old Natasha Wake in Bournemouth. Officers discovered Natasha with serious injuries at a Harley Gardens address around 2.40pm on Sunday, 2 October 2016. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Natasha Dies from Multiple Stab Wounds

A post-mortem confirmed Natasha died from multiple stab wounds. Dorset Police swiftly launched a murder investigation led by their Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT). The victim has been formally identified, and her family is receiving support from specially-trained officers.

Army Soldier Held Over Murder

Jay Nava, 26, from Plymouth, Devon, has been charged with Natasha’s murder. Nava, who is a serving soldier, appeared at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court this morning wearing a red t-shirt and sporting a large scar on his neck. He did not enter a plea but confirmed his personal details before being remanded in custody.

Nava gave his address as the Ministry of Defence, Royal Citadel, The Hoe, Plymouth. He will next appear at Winchester Crown Court at 10am tomorrow.

Police and Army Respond

An Army spokesman confirmed: “We can confirm that a serving soldier has appeared in Bournemouth Magistrates Court today charged with murder.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire of MCIT said:

“Following a fast-moving and thorough investigation, we consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service, who authorised the charge of murder. Family liaison officers have updated Natasha’s family with this development and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

She added it would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation continues.
