Mother Charged With Murder of Baby Son in Harrow

31-Year-Old Remanded in Custody

Mariam Benzain, 31, from Preston Road, Harrow, has been charged with the murder of her five-month-old son. She appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 28 July, and was remanded in custody. Her next court date is yet to be fixed.

Tragic Scene Unfolded in Broad Daylight

Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to a Preston Road address at around 9:51am on Wednesday, 22 July, after a call reporting an injured infant. Sadly, the baby boy, named Elias Biad, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Ongoing After Post Mortem Findings

Benzain was arrested immediately and charged with her son’s murder. She appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 24 July. A post mortem at St Thomas’ Hospital on Monday, 27 July, revealed the preliminary cause of death as an incised wound.

The Met’s Specialist Crime homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
