Man Arrested in Cambridge Over Suspected Bomb Plot
Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command have nabbed a man in his 20s in Cambridge. The arrest came on Saturday, 12 September, on suspicion of attempting to cause an explosion or possessing explosives with intent to endanger life or property, under the Explosive Substances Act 1883.
Early Morning Arrest and Ongoing Searches
The arrest was made at 9:13am with backup from the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Armed Response Unit as a safety precaution. The man is now held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and is in custody at a south London police station. Officers are currently scouring two Cambridge addresses linked to the investigation.
Bomb Scare Linked to Suspicious Package in North London
The swoop follows the discovery of a suspicious parcel sent to a home in north London’s Cricklewood. Police were called in at just after 9:10am on Thursday, 10 September. Bomb disposal experts found and secured a small improvised explosive device.
Authorities have now cleared the area and stressed there is no threat to the public. Investigations into this alarming incident are ongoing.
