Machete Rampage in Chester Ends with Jail Time for Violent 18-Year-Old

Rampaging Machete Madman Terrorises City Centre

An 18-year-old thug went on a terrifying rampage wielding a 30cm machete in Chester city centre last month. Korben Bell, who has no fixed address, was caught on CCTV chasing a man down Foregate Street in the early hours of 16 August.

Bell’s victim fled into a nearby takeaway for safety – but Bell smashed the shop’s glass door with more than 10 blows from his deadly blade while terrified customers looked on.

Swift Arrest and Tough Jail Sentence

Police were quickly alerted by a sharp-eyed CCTV operator, who tracked Bell until officers swooped in to arrest him. The machete was recovered close by.

Bell faced Chester Crown Court on 14 September, where he admitted carrying a knife, affray, and criminal damage. One week later, he was handed a hefty sentence of three years and 10 months in a young offenders institution.

Police Praise Vigilant CCTV Operator and Urge Public to Help Fight Knife Crime

“Bell is clearly a violent individual and I welcome the sentence that has been handed to him,” said Detective Constable Peta Ticer.

“His rampage took place on a busy Saturday night in the heart of Chester city centre, with many people fearing for their lives.”

“Thankfully, nobody was injured thanks to the quick thinking of the CCTV operator and brave officers who risked their lives to make the arrest.”

Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane added: “Carrying a knife doesn’t make you safer. The consequences are devastating.”

“Cheshire Constabulary is cracking down on dangerous weapons and urges anyone with information to come forward, either directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
