Knife and Class B Drug Found on Whitehaven Man After Police Arrest
Ryan Bennett, 35, from Brakeside Gardens, Whitehaven, has been sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for carrying a bladed article in public and possessing a Class B drug – amphetamine.
Incident on Woodhouse Road
On 22 March 2020, at around 5:30pm, police were called to Woodhouse Road in Whitehaven following reports of Bennett’s suspicious behaviour. When officers arrived, Bennett resisted arrest but was eventually detained.
Knife and Drugs Discovered
A search uncovered a bag of white powder believed to be amphetamine and a knife nearby. Thankfully, no one was harmed during the incident.
Police Issue Stark Warning
“This is a great result and thankfully Bennett didn’t use the knife on anyone,” said Police Constable Paul Kearns.
“Carrying a knife can have fatal consequences and we will not tolerate this happening in our communities.
“I hope that the prison sentence can send a clear message to those who would consider carrying a knife, that if you do, we will do all we can to ensure you are removed from society and spend time in prison.”
