Eltiona Skana Locked Up for Life

Eltiona Skana, 31, was jailed for life with a minimum term of ten years and eight months in December 2020. She was handed an indefinite hospital order due to her severe paranoid schizophrenia. Skana had pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility but was cleared of murder at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.

Skana Given Leave to Appeal Sentence

A Court of Appeal spokesperson confirmed that Skana has been granted permission to challenge her sentence. Originally from Albania, she was detained under the Mental Health Act following the attack on March 22 last year.

Judge’s Warning: Prison After Mental Health Improves

During sentencing, Judge Mr Justice Wall warned that Skana will serve her full sentence in prison once her mental health stabilises. The appalling crime has shocked the local community and raised questions about mental health and public safety.
