Former Church Worker Jailed Nearly 10 Years for Sick Child Abuse
Gordon Newton’s Dark Secret Uncovered
Gordon Newton, 40, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, has been handed a hefty sentence after admitting to multiple sexual assaults on a young girl. The court heard the former Batley church worker confessed to harbouring a sexual interest in children for years.
Horrific Evidence Found on Phone
Newton’s own wife, Julie, handed over his old mobile phone to the police. Shockingly, 276 indecent images of children were discovered on the device. Of those, 70 belonged to the most serious category of abuse images. Prosecutor Julian Jones revealed that Newton’s internet searches included disturbing queries for images of children under three years old.
Judge Slams “Hypocrite” Abuser
Judge Tom Bayliss showed no mercy, branding Newton a “hypocrite” who committed a “gross abuse of trust.” He reminded the court Newton’s actions wrecked the life of his victim, himself, and his wife, who suffers from depression and cannot work full-time because of the trauma.
“You held yourself out as a man of God, but you’re nothing. You’re a hypocrite,” the judge said.
Newton was convicted of 12 offences, including six counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13. He now faces a life-long spot on the sex offenders’ register and a sexual prevention order to stop any future crimes.
