Carlisle Man Jailed for Brutal Assault and Threats to Kill
Dean Ronald Haughan, 31, of Carlisle, has been locked up for seven years after a terrifying attack on two women. The jury at Carlisle Crown Court found him guilty of Assault and Threats to Kill following a harrowing three-day trial that ended on November 23.
Violent May Day Horror Caught on CCTV
The nightmare began on May 12, 2021, when the victims, known to Haughan, visited his flat. In the early hours of May 13, CCTV showed one woman being violently thrown out of the flat by Haughan. Meanwhile, the second woman was forcibly imprisoned inside the property and subjected to multiple sexual and violent assaults over six horrific hours. Disturbing footage also captured Haughan threatening her with a knife.
Detective Chief Insp. Calls Case ‘Particularly Sinister’
“Haughan showed no regard for the woman’s welfare during these repeated attacks,” said Detective Chief Inspector Vicki Coombes, Force lead for Rape and Serious Sexual Offences.
“I want to thank the victims for their incredible courage in supporting the investigation and legal process. Their bravery has ensured this offender faces justice.”
“Violence and sexual offending will never be tolerated in Cumbria. We urge anyone who has suffered such crimes to come forward. Specialist officers are here to offer sensitive and thorough support.”
