Couple Jailed Over Shocking Child Abuse in Telford

Darren Paisley, 39, and Serena Sibson-Bartram, 34, both from Telford, were sentenced today at Shrewsbury Crown Court for horrific child neglect. Paisley received a hefty 7 years and 6 months behind bars, while Sibson-Bartram was slammed with 6 years and 6 months. A third defendant, Samantha Paisley, 35, also from Telford, was convicted of child neglect, but her sentence was adjourned.

Brutal Abuse Discovered After School Alert

The nightmare came to light in 2018 when one of the boys’ schools raised alarms. West Mercia Police teamed up with Telford and Wrekin Children’s Services to launch a full investigation.

They uncovered terrible mistreatment of two boys, including starving them and forcing them to stand in painful stress positions for hours.

Boys Now Safe and Supported

Thanks to swift action by authorities, the boys are now living in a safe family home and receiving full support from Telford and Wrekin Children’s Services.

Guilty Verdicts and Harsh Sentences

  • Darren Paisley was charged with four counts of child neglect between February 2014 and March 2018.
  • Serena Sibson-Bartram faced the same charges over the same period.
  • Samantha Paisley pleaded guilty to two counts of child neglect.

All were arrested in May 2018. After a trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Darren and Serena were found guilty on 10 February.

Detective Speaks Out on Disturbing Case

“This was a very distressing case for many people involved,” said Detective Constable Vicky Fisher, lead investigator.

“Thankfully, working with Telford and Wrekin Children’s Services, we removed the boys from harm. The defendants showed no remorse for their tremendously cruel crimes against innocent young boys they were supposed to care for and protect.”

“We hope these sentences provide closure and help the boys move forward with their lives. We thank the brave witnesses and the school that raised their concerns, urging anyone worried about a child’s welfare to come forward.”
