Speeding Driver Jailed After Fatal Smash that Killed 75-Year-Old Pedestrian
Deadly Collision on Blackburn Road
Thuron Miah, 24, was tearing along Blackburn Road in a white Volkswagen Golf at 5.05pm on November 2, 2019, when he hit 75-year-old Harry Davies as the pensioner crossed the road. Mr Davies suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital but tragically died shortly after.
Eyewitnesses and CCTV Back Speeding Claims
Miah, from Ambleside Close, Blackburn, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Witnesses reported the Golf was speeding just before the crash. CCTV footage confirmed this.
Guilty Verdict and Harsh Sentence
Miah pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving but denied the more serious dangerous driving charge. A jury at Burnley Crown Court found him guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. Today, May 16, he was jailed for three-and-a-half years and banned from driving for five years.
Sgt Michael Higginson, East Tactical Operations: “Thuron Miah was driving far too fast, and his actions led to the death of Mr Davies. Speed is a factor in many fatal crashes, and this tragic case shows why.”
Family’s Heartbreaking Statement
“Justice has been done but we still live daily without our beloved Harry — a kind and gentle man. The trial was awful. We learned Miah had two previous speeding offences but didn’t slow down. He was an accident waiting to happen. We hope prison teaches him the price of reckless driving so no other family suffers like we have.”
A second man arrested over the incident was later released without charge.
