Man Caught Carrying Knuckleduster in Newport
Keelan Hobbs, 21, from Barton Road, Newport, appeared at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He faced charges for possessing an offensive weapon – a knuckleduster – and had already pleaded guilty.
Spotted With Deadly Weapon
Prosecutor Ann Smout revealed Hobbs was seen carrying the knuckleduster on June 4th at Howard House on Barton Road. Staff were alerted and questioned him. Hobbs admitted he carried it for protection, saying, “If I was stabbed, I would die. I’m dead if you take it.”
Defence Cites Past Attack
Hobbs’ lawyer, Amy Hosell, told the court he was recently run over and assaulted, which prompted him to carry the weapon. She added Hobbs was given the knuckleduster months before and had no intention to use it.
