Robbery Gang’s Last Man Caged After Daring Escape to Spain
Mark Toth, 37, from Shrewsbury Street, Kensington, has finally been locked up for ten years. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and remaining unlawfully at large. The sentence was handed down on Friday, June 17, at Isleworth Crown Court.
Fled to Spain After Co-Offenders Arrested
Toth was the last member of a robbery gang to face justice. After hearing that his two male co-conspirators were nabbed and sentenced in May 2020, he fled to Spain to dodge capture. But his luck ran out when he flew back to the UK for a funeral.
Caught at Hotel Thanks to Social Media Slip-Up
The Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce tracked him down on February 25. Officers spotted him in photos posted online and swooped on an Ealing hotel room on Hanger Lane. Toth yelled, “I’m unarmed!” as police used a swipe key to enter with hotel staff help. He even tried smashing his phone in half before the cuffs went on.
Violent Axe Robbery Shocks London
- Two men on a moped threatened a woman in her fifties.
- An axe was pressed to her neck while she was forced to the ground in a headlock.
- Toth tried to strangle her on the pavement and stole her £25,000 Rolex Daytona watch.
The victim escaped with minor injuries, but the pricey watch remains missing.
“This man has finally been jailed for this terrifying robbery,” said Detective Constable Peta Lundgren, who led the probe.
“The three suspects were quickly identified, and two were caught soon after. Toth tried to dodge justice by fleeing abroad but we found him.”
“This sentence warns anyone involved in serious crime: we will hunt you down.”
“Thanks to the courageous victim for her cooperation.”
