It has been nearly two years since Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested on charges of conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to recruit, groom, and abuse underage girls.
Maxwell, 60, was convicted in December 2021 of recruiting and grooming girls between 1994 and 2004 to have sexual encounters with billionaire Epstein, then her boyfriend.
Nathan, the judge: The behavior’requires a significant sentence.’ ‘
The harm done to these young girls was immeasurable,’ Nathan says.
‘The conduct necessitates a significant sentence.’
“A significant sentence will send an unmistakable message that those who engage in sexual abuse and trafficking of underage victims will face legal consequences.’
The rule of law requires, and this court agrees, that no one is above the law, whether rich, powerful, or completely unknown.
Miss Maxwell directly and repeatedly participated in a horrific scheme to entice, transport, and traffic underage girls, some as young as 14,’ said Judge Nathan in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial.
‘Miss Maxwell is not being punished in place of Epstein, nor is she acting as a proxy for Epstein,’ Judge Nathan says.
‘Miss Maxwell is being punished for her role,’ says the principal.
The judge describes Maxwell’s actions as “heinous and predatory.”
Judge Nathan mentions a victim named ‘Jane,’ who was befriended by Maxwell when she was 14 years old.
‘She made sexual abuse acceptable.’
The judge cites one victim, Carolyn, who told Maxwell that her mother was an alcoholic and that her grandfather raped her.
The defendant was aware of this information and used it to keep Carolyn in a cycle of sexual abuse.’
