After Responding To A Number Of Incidents In Islington, Police Arrested A Man On Suspicion Of A Firearms Offence

On Sunday, July 24, police were called shortly after 12:00 p.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance on Junction Road, N19, as well as a firearm discharge.

On the property, a fire had also been started.

When armed officers arrived, a man was making threats to shoot a member of the public; he was quickly detained, and a suspected firearm was recovered from the scene.

The officers requested assistance from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm, possessing an offensive weapon [a knife], and arson as a result of officers’ actions. During the arrest, a Taser was used.

Before being taken into custody, the man was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His injuries have been determined to be minor.

There have been no additional reports of injuries to members of the general public.

“I would like to thank the members of the public for contacting us and assisting us in locating this dangerous man,” said Commander Kyle Gordon, the Met’s Head of Firearms.

“While incidents like this are thankfully rare, I’d like to express my gratitude to my colleagues, who once again demonstrated how quickly they will stand between the public and harm.”

The investigation into the full circumstances is still ongoing.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, as is customary in such cases.
