Man Charged With Murder in Connection to Missing Basildon Woman
Police have charged a man with murder amid the investigation into missing Basildon woman Madison Wright. The 30-year-old disappeared on the morning of Friday, July 22, sparking a major inquiry by Kent and Essex’s Serious Crime Directorate.
Body Found at Wat Tyler Country Park
A body was discovered on Saturday, July 30, at Wat Tyler Country Park. While formal identification has not yet started, police believe it may be linked to Madison’s case. The park and nearby recycling centre remain closed as officers continue their investigation.
Suspect in Custody
Garry Bennett, 36, from Caister Drive, Pitsea, has been charged with murder. He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 1, 2022. Madison’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist detectives.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Officers ask anyone who saw Madison or her black Vauxhall Astra (registration EU13 JVW) between 8:30 a.m. on July 22 and July 26 to get in touch. They’re also seeking any CCTV, dash cam, or other footage related to the case.
