East Lancashire Derby: Police and Clubs Warn Fans to Keep It Classy

Burnley FC host Blackburn Rovers this Sunday at Turf Moor, with kick-off at 12:30pm. It’s the first league clash between the rivals since 2016. But this year’s derby comes with an extra weight — it falls on Remembrance Sunday, when the nation pauses to honour its heroes.

Heavy Police Presence to Keep Fans Safe

Lancashire Police have been planning for months and teamed up with both clubs, emergency services, local councils, and the Royal British Legion. To cover the derby and Remembrance events, they’ve even cancelled officer rest days to boost patrols.

  • Specialist police squads on duty
  • Mounted units and police dogs present
  • Police helicopter and drones monitoring the area
  • Full CCTV coverage in stadium and town centre

Officers warn troublemakers: body-worn cameras are rolling, and any bad behaviour will be recorded and followed up—even after match day.

A Warning to Hooligans: We’re Watching

ACC Russ Procter, Gold Command for the derby, said: “Some fans may let their passion boil over, but our police presence has always been strong. Poor behaviour will not be tolerated, and we are ready to deal with anyone who crosses the line.”

Procter added the police will work with clubs to ban offenders from future games. Away fans are free to travel independently, but police reassure locals about a robust operation in place to prevent disorder.

Remembering Heroes While Celebrating Football

The derby will be broadcast live on Sky, spotlighting this fierce Lancashire rivalry. Both clubs hope the supporters will show class on and off the pitch.

ACC Procter also reminded fans that on this Remembrance Sunday, Lancashire Constabulary officers will be not only managing the derby but also attending memorial services across the county.

Football passion and respect for the day’s solemnity must go hand in hand. Lancashire police and clubs urge everyone to support their teams responsibly.
