Cop Caught Out: PC Eliot McDermott Faces the Axe After Criminal Damage Guilty Plea
PC McDermott’s Court Case
PC Eliot McDermott, once part of the North Area Basic Command Unit, appeared at Luton Crown Court on Friday, 23 September. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage following a probe by Hertfordshire Constabulary. The court handed down a conditional discharge. On top of that, McDermott was ordered to pay costs, compensation, and a small victim surcharge.
Misconduct Hearing Ends in Gross Misconduct Verdict
A misconduct panel, led by an independent legally qualified chair, reviewed the case. After hearing all the evidence, they ruled that McDermott would have been sacked without notice. He was found guilty of breaching the Standards of Professional Behaviour, specifically Discreditable Conduct and Honesty and Integrity. The panel officially ruled this as gross misconduct following the hearing that wrapped up on 23 November.
Resignation and Blacklisting
PC McDermott quit the Met on Monday, 14 November, before formal dismissal. Now, he’s been added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Being on this list means he cannot work for any police force, local policing bodies—including Police and Crime Commissioners—as well as the Independent Office for Police Conduct or Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
