Dylan Tattersall jailed for terrifying sex attacks in Accrington
Metal bar menace strikes in early hours
Dylan Tattersall, 28, launched a horrifying attack in Accrington on the morning of June 19 last year. Armed with a metal bar, he threatened his victim before trying twice to carry out serious sexual assaults.
Victim’s quick thinking leads to arrest
Showing remarkable courage, the victim secretly snapped photos of Tattersall on her phone, helping police track him down and arrest him the very same day. Tattersall, from Gloucester Avenue, Accrington, faced swift justice.
Guilty plea, tough sentence at Preston Crown Court
Initially charged with two rapes and breaching a non-molestation order, Tattersall was found guilty of the breach in December 2022 after a jury couldn’t reach a verdict on the rape charges. He later pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape. Today, Judge Heather Lloyd labelled him a dangerous offender and handed him a three-year extended licence sentence.
Tattersall must also sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and is slapped with a restraining order.
Detective praises victim’s bravery
DS Lee Harris of East CID said: “I would like to commend the victim of this case for her bravery in reporting this serious incident to the police and for her continued resilience, which saw her having to give her full evidence in a previous trial and who was prepared to endure it again if needs be.”
“Both the victim and I welcome the sentence and other sanctions that have been placed upon Tattersall today, which reflects the seriousness of the case and sends a clear message that offenders like Tattersall will be brought to justice.”
“I hope the outcome of this case encourages other victims of sexual violence to come forward, knowing they will be listened to and believed.”
