Unlicensed Driver Jailed for Death of Cyclist in Manchester
Ratthore Singh has been slapped with a 14-month jail sentence after causing a fatal crash while driving without a licence. The sentence was handed down at Minshull Street Crown Court following his guilty plea to Causing Death by Careless Driving and Causing Death whilst driving without a licence.
Tragic Crash on Centenary Way
The deadly collision happened just before 1am on 20th December 2021. Singh, a provisional licence holder, struck Roger Parris as he cycled towards Trafford Park. Singh was driving unsupervised, with no L plates displayed on his vehicle.
Roger was thrown from his bike by the impact. Instead of stopping, Singh drove on, only to turn back at a roundabout and cross Centenary Way again near the crash site.
Bystander Saves and Emergency Called
A second motorist spotted Roger injured on the road and immediately called emergency services. Roger was rushed to hospital but sadly died from his injuries later that morning.
Police Hit Out at Reckless Driving
“Roger was wearing visibility clothing, a white helmet and cycling with lights. He was clearly visible and had been safely passed by other motorists. This collision was entirely avoidable,” said Sergeant Louise Warhurst from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “We hope this jail sentence and driving ban send a strong warning to careless drivers. Our thoughts are with Roger’s loved ones.”
