Colchester police have charged a man in connection with a terrifying incident that occurred on Friday night, where two individuals were threatened in their own homes.

Officers responded promptly to a break-in report at an address on Hickory Avenue at approximately 11pm on Friday, 21 July. During the intrusion, a man and a woman were subjected to violent threats, causing immense distress to both victims. Fortunately, neither suffered any physical injuries, but the emotional impact of the incident was profound.

Thanks to the swift response and efficient inquiries conducted by the authorities, a person of interest was promptly identified. Early Saturday morning, a man in his 30s was arrested at an address on Tabor Road, Colchester.

Following the authorisation granted by the Crown Prosecution Service, Jordan Hibbs, 32, of Buckingham Drive, Colchester has been charged with aggravated burglary, possession of a bladed article, and possession of a Class B drug. He is set to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, today.

Acting Detective Inspector Paul Olney, who is leading the investigation, commented on the case, saying, “From the beginning, this has been an extremely fast-paced investigation which has resulted in a really quick arrest. Officers have then worked tirelessly to investigate the incident and present their findings to the Crown Prosecution Service, and, this afternoon, they were authorised to charge Mr Hibbs.”

While this significant development marks progress in the investigation, authorities emphasise that the case remains ongoing. They continue their efforts to unravel the exact circumstances surrounding the frightening incident and provide justice to the victims.

The authorities urge anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward.”
