Oldham Car Scam Gang Locked Up for 48 Years

Imran Ali from Oldham was handed a hefty 10-year prison sentence at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday, 6 December. He was the last member of a brutal gang to be convicted.

Big Sentences for Ruthless Robbers

  • Mohammed Farid of Lorne Street, Oldham, got 20 years for conspiracy to commit robbery.
  • Faisal Farid, also from Oldham’s Osborne Street, was jailed for 12 years for the same crime.
  • Adam Marco from Kent Street, Oldham, received 6 years after pleading guilty.

Together, the gang members were sentenced to a total of 48 years behind bars.

Fake Car Sale Trap Turned Violent

Between September 2019 and February 2020, the gang terrorised at least 18 victims. They lured people by advertising vehicles on eBay, promising great deals.

But instead of a handover, buyers were met by masked thugs armed with machetes, hammers, and even a handgun – believed to be an imitation firearm. A bullet was found inside their Citroen Berlingo van.

Police linked the gang to 28 reported incidents, including nine robberies and multiple attempted robberies.

Police Praise and Public Warning

Detective Superintendent Joseph Harrop said: “This organised crime won’t be tolerated. These criminals acted with audacity but now face justice.”

“They constantly changed emails, eBay accounts, phones and supplied fake vehicle documents. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.”

“A massive thanks to the officers whose tireless work over 2 years took these dangerous criminals off our streets.”

“Watch out for ridiculously low prices, new accounts with few reviews, sellers who refuse to talk openly, and those demanding cash payments only.”

“If you do meet a seller, avoid unlit or remote spots, don’t go alone, and never carry large amounts of cash.”
