Teen Jailed After Wielding Knife in Gosport Stand-Off

A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to six months detention after a dramatic knife incident in Gosport. The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to carrying a knife, causing grievous bodily harm without intent, and affray at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday 11 November.

Knife Threat Sparks Late-Night Chaos

The trouble kicked off on 5 September at around 11.20pm on Frater Lane. Police were called after the teen threatened people inside a property while brandishing a knife. A man risked injury to restrain the youth and wrestle the weapon away, suffering cuts to his arm and leg in the process.

The boy was arrested at the scene by officers who responded promptly.

Harsh Sentence for Knife Crime

At court, the teenager was handed a six-month Detention and Training Order. He will serve half his sentence behind bars, with the remainder spent under the supervision of the Youth Offending Team in the community.

“Knife crime is something we will always take incredibly seriously,” said T/DC Paul Osborne. “Too often knives can lead to serious injury or death, and there is absolutely no excuse for carrying one, let alone using it as a weapon.

“I hope this sends a strong message to those carrying knives that there are real consequences, including prison time. We work hard to steer young people away from this path, but serious offences will always face prosecution.”
