Man Held Over Terror Stabbing Outside Cheltenham Leisure Centre

A man has been arrested on terror-related charges following a shocking stabbing outside a Cheltenham leisure centre.

Serious Stabbing at Tommy Taylors Lane

The incident took place at around 9.15pm on Thursday 9 March near Tommy Taylors Lane leisure centre. A woman was stabbed and suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to hospital and remains in a stable condition.

Counter Terrorism Police Take Over Investigation

Due to the nature of the attack, Counter Terrorism Policing South East is leading the probe, working hand-in-hand with Counter Terrorism Policing South West and Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Suspect Re-Arrested on Terrorism Charges

  • The man was first arrested for attempted murder immediately after the stabbing.
  • He was re-arrested last night under the Terrorism Act.
  • Police have secured a warrant allowing detention until 16 March to question him further.

Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and are not aware of any wider threat to the public. We are working closely with Counter Terrorism partners.”

“We understand this may cause concern and urge anyone with information to contact us on 101.”
