Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Cheltenham Stabbing
A 29-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing outside a Cheltenham leisure centre.
Joshua Bowles Arrested at the Scene
Joshua Bowles was arrested minutes after the attack on March 9 at around 9.15 a.m. in Gloucestershire. Alongside attempted murder, he faces charges of causing actual bodily harm, confirmed Nick Price, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime and counter-terrorism division.
Court Date Set in London
Bowles is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this Thursday. “The CPS has authorised Gloucestershire police to charge Joshua Bowles with attempted murder,” said Mr Price.
The victim, reportedly an American spy, was seriously injured and remains in stable condition in hospital. Police urge the public to avoid speculation. Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright of Counter-Terrorism Policing South East said:
“We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no information to suggest any wider threat to the local community.”
The CPS also reminded everyone that Bowles is entitled to a fair trial as the case proceeds.
