Waste Dumping Banned at Sheffield Skip Site in Groundbreaking Court Move
A strict court order now bans anyone from entering or dumping waste at the M White Skips Limited site on Worthing Road, Sheffield. The move aims to protect the local community and environment from ongoing harm.
First-Ever Restriction Order of Its Kind in Yorkshire
The order, secured at Sheffield Magistrates Court, is the first time such powers have been enforced in Yorkshire. It blocks all access except for waste removal, stopping any new waste from being brought in or processed on-site.
Serious Pollution Risk Sparks Swift Action
At a hearing on 15 March 2023, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service highlighted the site’s dangerous condition, warning of severe pollution and health risks. However, the Environment Agency’s full evidence had to be heard at a later session scheduled for 3 May 2023.
Jacqui Tootill, South Yorkshire Area Environment Manager, said:
“Our officers have taken enforcement action to issue this restriction order, preventing any further dumping or treatment of waste. The operator can only access the site to remove existing waste.”
“We’re inspecting regularly, working with partners to ensure the order is followed, and pushing to clear the site. If needed, we’ll take more enforcement action and continue investigating the illegal activities.”
Ongoing Investigation and Enforcement
The Environment Agency and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are collaborating in a criminal probe into the site’s activities. The court order remains in place until further evidence is reviewed, keeping the site under tight control to protect residents and the environment.
