Suspended Cop and Partner Face Heavy Charges in Major GMP Corruption Probe
Greater Manchester Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit has moved swiftly to charge two men, including a suspended officer, after a thorough investigation into serious misconduct.
Andrew Talbot: From Sergeant to Suspect
Andrew Talbot, 53, once part of GMP’s Serious Crime Division, is slapped with a staggering array of charges: possession of Class A drugs (twice), illegal ammunition, theft, intent to supply Class A drugs, multiple counts of misconduct in public office, conspiracy, plus unlawful access to police systems. He’s currently suspended, pending trial.
Keith Bretherton Also Hits the Dock
Keith Bretherton, 49, from Wigan, isn’t off the hook either. He faces charges including conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, and possession of both Class A and Class B drugs.
Court Date Set After Years-Long Investigation
The allegations cover incidents between 2017 and 2021. The Anti-Corruption Unit launched its probe in February 2020, arresting Talbot immediately. Bretherton was arrested over a year later, in June 2021. Both men will face Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
