Man Charged with Murder After Brutal Sutton Heath Stabbing
A 42-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Sutton Heath.
Stabbing Horror on Ipswich Avenue
Police were called at around 9pm on October 8 after reports of a stabbing outside a home on Ipswich Avenue. Officers and ambulance crews arrived within 15 minutes. The scene was so serious that an air ambulance and a volunteer critical care paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service were dispatched. Despite desperate efforts, the victim, a 37-year-old man, died at the scene.
Victim Succumbs to Stab Wounds
A Home Office post-mortem on October 9 revealed the cause of death as stab wounds to the heart and left lung. Formal ID of the victim is still awaited.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Just 15 minutes after police arrived, Jay Cotterill, 42, from Ipswich Avenue, Sutton Heath, was arrested at the scene. He is now facing charges of murder alongside assault causing actual bodily harm, connected to an attack on a woman during the incident.
Cotterill remains in custody and is set to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
The Major Investigation Team is urging people who were driving along Ipswich Avenue before or after 9pm on October 8 to come forward. Dashcam footage could prove vital.
