Courier Fraud Scandal Hits East Lancashire – £156k Stolen!

A nasty courier fraud racket has ripped off East Lancashire victims to the tune of £156,000 in cash and valuables. Police say the scam has now ballooned to 16 cases, with arrests made and warnings blasted out to the public.

Two Women Arrested in Fraud Sting

Last week, cops nabbed a 26-year-old from West Bromwich and a 25-year-old from Hull. Both are suspected of fraud by false representation but have been bailed with strict conditions, including a ban on visiting police stations except to answer bail.

Fake Cops Behind Sophisticated Scam

The crooks pretend to be Lancashire Constabulary officers, using bogus names and collar numbers like Detective Martin Rose (48522 and 522), DC Brian Gosling (5244), DC Hama Long (70315), and DC John Matthews (5581). None of these names or numbers match actual officers.

  • They scare victims, claiming their bank accounts are compromised or linked to fraud.
  • They pressure victims into withdrawing cash, buying luxury items like Rolex watches, or swapping cash for Euros.
  • A fake one-time password is given, then a “courier” collects the loot from victims’ homes or car parks.

Police Warning: Stay Alert and Don’t Get Caught Out

“This is a dedicated and detailed investigation into the devious actions of those willing to steal from some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Detective Chief Inspector John Roy.

DCI Roy added that police are probing links between all incidents and urged the public to protect vulnerable people from falling victim.

Remember: Neither police nor banks will ask you to withdraw money, buy items, or send cash via courier over the phone. Real officers never send couriers to collect cash or goods.

Spotted a Scam? Here’s What To Do

  1. Check any suspicious calls by ringing police on 101.

Stay sharp – these crooks won’t quit without a fight. Protect yourself and loved ones from this ruthless scam!
