Burglary to Getaway: Cornwall Thief Drives Off in Stolen Car
George Jones, 22, broke into a Cornwall Road home on the morning of Saturday 14 October. He swiped cash, clothes, mobile phones, and a car key. Using the stolen key, he drove off in the victim’s car.
Quick ID Leads to Arrest
Police quickly got images of Jones, identifying him within days. The stolen car was later spotted in Shepton Mallet on Friday 20 October. Jones was behind the wheel and was arrested on the spot.
Multiple Charges and Guilty Pleas
Jones, who has no fixed address, was charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of driving without a licence. He pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 October.
He also admitted to two separate thefts from Glastonbury on 26 September: stealing a handbag with cash and shoplifting alcohol.
Police Speak Out
PC Jim Card said: “George Jones’ involvement was quickly established by officers and the fact he was caught driving the stolen vehicle meant he had little option but to plead guilty to multiple offences.
“He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on Monday 20 November.
“We are pleased to bring the offender so quickly before the courts, and to return the stolen vehicle to its rightful owner.”
