Teen Brutally Attacked in Cannabis Grow-Related Violence in York Road

Officers rushed to York Road just before 4.25am on 11 October 2022 after reports of a disturbance. They found a teenage boy with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but has thankfully pulled through.

A second teenager also suffered leg injuries and was hospitalised, but he too has recovered.

Organised Crime Clash Over Massive Cannabis Farm

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate uncovered a violent clash between two gangs. One gang was running a huge cannabis farm with over 100 plants at various growth stages inside a property.

The two injured teens tried to escape during the confrontation. That’s when three men, brothers Aurel and Xheni Ukcenaj and Elton Vata – all tied to organised crime – got into a Ford Focus and used it to ram and injure the victims viciously.

One victim was also stabbed three times by Aurel Ukcenaj while lying on the ground before the attackers fled.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests and Convictions

Thanks to quick police work, officers identified numerous organised crime figures linked to the attack. Several arrests followed across South Essex and London.

The Ukcenaj brothers and Elton Vata were charged:

  • Aurel Ukcenaj, 32, of Marischal Road, London, charged with attempted murder and cannabis production.
  • Xheni Ukcenaj, 27, of Chase Side, Enfield, charged with attempted murder and cannabis production.
  • Elton Vata, 34, of West Road, Westcliff, charged with cannabis production.

A trial was set for 7 November at Basildon Crown Court, but all three men pleaded guilty. The Crown Prosecution Service accepted the pleas.

Harsh Sentences for Cannabis Crime and Brutal Attack

  • Xheni Ukcenaj got 15 years in prison and must serve at least 10 before parole.
  • Aurel Ukcenaj received 12 years, serving a minimum of 8 years before release.
  • Elton Vata was jailed for 26 months and will be deported after his sentence.

The brutal attack linked to a sprawling cannabis operation ends with heavy prison terms for the criminals involved.
