Man Jailed for Brutal Bournemouth Attack

A 33-year-old Bournemouth man has been handed an eight-year jail sentence after a savage assault left a man in his 60s with life-changing injuries.

Attack Outside Pub Ends in Serious Injuries

Michael Parker, from Grosvenor Gardens, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday 12 December 2023. Parker was convicted of wounding with intent and had earlier pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and assault by beating.

The vicious incident happened at around 9:40pm on 30 June 2022 outside Marroy’s Public House on Christchurch Road. The elderly victim approached Parker and was immediately headbutted, punched, and kicked, knocking him backwards into the road.

Multiple Victims as Violence Escalates

  • A second man, also in his 60s, stepped in to help but was punched repeatedly by Parker.
  • A woman in her 50s tried to intervene and was shoved to the ground.

The first victim suffered a fractured left cheek, fractured skull, and a brain bleed. He remains in recovery from these serious injuries.

Police Crack Down on Violent Crime

Parker was arrested at his home on 1 July 2022 at around 8:15pm after a police investigation.

“This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on a member of the public, which resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries that they will have to live with for the rest of their life,” said Detective Inspector Rhys Griffiths of Dorset Police.

“We absolutely will not tolerate violent offending of this nature and as this case demonstrates, we will do all we can to identify offenders and bring them before the court so they can face the consequences of their actions.”
