Speeding drug driver caught after wild police chase on Pewsey High Street
Lucas-Parsons’ early morning joyride ends in court
Byron Lucas-Parsons, 23, of Goddard Road, was sentenced yesterday (08/01) at Salisbury Magistrates Court for a May 2023 incident. He had already admitted guilt at a November 2023 hearing.
Police pursuit ends with taser and dog tracking
In the early hours of May 8, Lucas-Parsons sped through Pewsey High Street just after 4.30am — no lights, pitch dark. When ordered to stop by police, he ignored them and fled. The chase ended on Marlborough Road when he crashed into a sign after reversing at speed. He tried to run into nearby woods but was tracked down by Police Dog Conan.
PC Ben Greening said: “Lucas-Parsons did everything in his power to evade police, driving off at speed despite officers requesting him to stop. It was down to the great work by PD Conan and his handler that we located him in his hiding place.”
Heavy sentence but lucky no one was hurt
Lucas-Parsons was handed a 24-week jail term, suspended for 18 months, banned from driving for 18 months, ordered into 6 months of drug rehab, and must complete up to 12 days of Rehabilitation Activity. He also faces fines totaling £239.
Authorities stressed how dangerous drug-driving is, calling it one of the “fatal five” offences that greatly increase the chance of crashes. Thankfully, no one was injured during the chase, but if a drug-driving motorist causes a death, they can face life imprisonment.
Wiltshire Police crack down on fatal five offences
Wiltshire Police continue to target reckless drivers committing the “fatal five” offences:
- Using a mobile phone while driving
- Drink or drug driving
- Excessive speeding
- Not wearing a seatbelt
- Careless driving
Stay safe and stay off the roads if you’re impaired – police are watching.
