Three Men Jailed Over Fatal Grimsby Stabbing
Three men have been handed a combined 37 years behind bars for the murder of 29-year-old Jack Howes from Grimsby. The sentences were handed down today, Monday 8 January, at Hull Crown Court.
The Crime and Convictions
Kian Feve, 22, and Darren Feve, 55, both from Southfield Road, Scunthorpe, along with 23-year-old Robert Wattam from Broughton, were charged over the stabbing death of Jack Howes in March 2023.
All three initially pleaded not guilty. After a two-week trial that began on 20 November, the jury returned verdicts on 7 December:
- Kian Feve was found guilty of murder.
- Robert Wattam was convicted of manslaughter.
- Darren Feve was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
Sentencing on 8 January saw Kian Feve handed a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years. Wattam was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Darren Feve received a one-year suspended sentence with 200 hours of unpaid community work.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
Just after midnight on 20 March, police received calls about a man down following a fight on Macaulay Way. Emergency crews found Jack Howes with multiple stab wounds to his chest and stomach. Despite efforts to save him, he died at the hospital.
Investigation Details and Police Statement
Detective Superintendent Nikki Burnett, senior investigating officer, said: “From the start, we pulled hundreds of hours of CCTV, carried out house-to-house enquiries, and analysed phone data and forensic evidence.
“CCTV showed Kian Feve and Robert Wattam fleeing the scene. We later found both entering a property on Haycroft Street shortly after the stabbing. A search of the property uncovered a knife with Jack’s blood on the blade and Kian Feve’s DNA on the handle.”
“Both men were charged with murder and remanded in custody. Darren Feve was charged with perverting the course of justice after giving a false alibi for Kian Feve.”
“During their arrests, police found Class A and B drugs in their homes, leading to additional drug charges. Both pleaded guilty to these.”
“I want to commend Jack’s family for their incredible strength. While nothing can undo the tragedy, I hope today’s verdict offers some comfort knowing those responsible are behind bars.”
Family Speak Out
Jack’s family said: “Jack was adored and loved by his family and his loss has left us all completely devastated. We miss him every day. Our hearts are forever broken, and no sentence can bring Jack back.”
“We thank Humberside Police and everyone who helped bring those responsible to justice.”
