Life Sentence for Killer in Shocking Belfast Murder

McIlvenna Changes Plea, Admits Guilt
At Belfast Crown Court on Monday, McIlvenna stunned the courtroom by switching his plea to guilty. Initially denying any involvement, the Highvale Gardens man was re-arraigned and solemnly admitted to murdering Ms Morgan on December 18, 2021.
Life Behind Bars – But Minimum Term Still To Be Decided
The judge handed down a life sentence immediately after the plea. However, the minimum term—known as the tariff—that McIlvenna must serve before parole consideration is yet to be set. This critical hearing will be scheduled in due course.
Child Cruelty Charges Dropped, Killer Remanded
McIlvenna also faced two additional child cruelty charges from the same day, but prosecutors opted not to pursue these during the trial. These charges remain on record, but no further action will be taken. Meanwhile, McIlvenna remains in custody pending sentencing details.
