Two Men Jailed for Attempted Murder After Running Victim Over with Stolen Car

Two men have been locked up after trying to kill a man by running him over with a stolen car fitted with fake number plates.

Conviction at Basildon Crown Court

Joshua Littlechild, 25, from Bishops Stortford, and Joshua Lloyd, 28, from Billericay, were found guilty of attempted murder on 22 January 2024 at Basildon Crown Court.

Littlechild had already pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent. Lloyd admitted to aggravated vehicle taking.

Attack Outside Billericay Station Leaves Victim Seriously Injured

On 18 March 2023, just after 1am, the victim and his friends were heading to the taxi rank outside Billericay railway station after a night out. An altercation broke out between the victim’s group and Littlechild and Lloyd.

After the groups split, while the victim waited for a taxi, Littlechild sped towards him in a white Ford Fiesta, running him over before speeding off.

The victim suffered a critical brain injury needing multiple surgeries. He now suffers severe headaches, balance issues, and cognitive problems, including no short-term memory and difficulty recognising his newborn child. The victim requires constant care, putting immense strain on his family.

Police Praise Officers and Seek Justice for Victim

Detective Sergeant Marc Farmer said: “This was a cowardly attack where the two suspects used a car to try to kill the victim. He had nowhere to escape. The defendants have shown no remorse, and the victim has suffered life-changing injuries. What started as a minor scuffle has tragically changed lives forever.”

“My team worked tirelessly, under DCI Painter’s leadership, to gather all evidence leading to this conviction. I also want to thank the uniformed officers from BTP and Essex Police, and emergency services who attended this traumatic scene. I hope this verdict brings some closure to the victim and his family so they can begin to move on.”
