Knife Attack in Manchester: 19-Year-Old Jailed for Over Three Years

Jessica Taylor, 19, from Blackley, has been locked up for 3 years and 5 months after a brutal knife attack in Manchester’s busy Piccadilly Gardens last July. She pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article at Minshull Street Crown Court on January 30, 2024.

Vicious, Unprovoked Knife Assault

Detective Constable Annabel Lewis called the attack “vicious and unprovoked.” Taylor pulled a steak knife from her handbag and stabbed the victim in a crowded area. Police tracked her down through social media investigations. Despite staying silent in interviews, Taylor was identified in a video identification parade and arrested.

Victim Shares Devastating Impact

The victim, left with physical and emotional scars, revealed how the attack changed her life. “Before this happened, I used to go out several times a week to socialise with friends. Now I barely go anywhere other than to visit family,” she said. The trauma has led to increased irritability and emotional outbursts—struggles she never faced before.

Strong Message on Knife Crime

DC Lewis stressed the importance of the sentencing. “We hope this sends a strong message that carrying knives on the streets of Greater Manchester will not be tolerated.” She urged the community to join forces to tackle and prevent knife crime, highlighting the long-lasting damage it causes.
