Speeding Drunk Driver Rammed at 100mph in High-Stakes Police Chase

A reckless drunk driver was finally brought to justice after a heart-stopping high-speed chase through Surrey. Police had to ram Gary Smith’s car at 100mph to stop his dangerous spree on the roads of Esher.

Dangerous Pursuit Ends in Smash

The drama kicked off just before midnight on Friday, December 1, when Surrey Police spotted Smith, 38, behind the wheel of a white Seat Leon with fake license plates. Instead of stopping, Smith floored it down the A3 towards the M25, forcing officers into a nerve-wracking pursuit.

Smith’s reckless driving included weaving dangerously across the motorway at speed. Police rammed his car once after he put others in grave danger. The collision spun Smith’s vehicle almost full circle, but he still tried to escape.

Armed Officers Bring Chase to a Halt

Not letting up, officers slammed Smith’s car again, finally bringing the chase to a dramatic stop. Armed police with Tasers moved in swiftly to arrest him.

Smith now faces multiple charges including dangerous driving, failing to stop, refusing to provide alcohol or drug samples, driving while disqualified, and no insurance. At Guildford Crown Court on January 26, he was sentenced to six months behind bars, hit with fines, banned from driving for four years, and ordered to pass an extended driving test before getting back on the road.

Police Warn of Deadly Drink-Driving Risks

PC Hayley Jenkins, the lead investigator, said: “Smith showed total disregard for road safety and the law. We were lucky the collision only involved a specially trained police driver and no one else was hurt.”

The harrowing incident highlights the deadly dangers of drink-driving and reckless behaviour on Britain’s roads. Last December’s Operation Limit crackdown led to 208 arrests and 5,000 vehicle checks nationwide, targeting drunk and drugged drivers.

Authorities are urging drivers to obey the rules and keep our highways safe for everyone.
