Speeding and Suspicious Stops: Driver with Fake Licence Caught Red-Handed
On Wednesday, 26 July 2023, police spotted a silver Mercedes C Class tearing through Esher. The driver sped through a red light while holding a mobile phone to his face. The speed limit was 30mph; the car clocked 123mph.
Fake ID and Ankle Bracelet Raise Alarms
Checks on the driver’s licence revealed nothing on police records. Officers then noticed the man was wearing an immigration ankle bracelet. When questioned, he admitted the driving licence was fake. The man was identified as Nikolay Gyaurov.
Drug History, No Insurance, and Cash Stash Found
- Gyaurov is banned from driving until 2026 due to earlier drug-driving offences.
- He had no valid insurance; his fake licence details were used to arrange cover.
- Police found £1,250 in cash and grip seal bags containing white powder in the car door.
- Further needles and syringes were found in the boot.
- Gyaurov was arrested for supplying Class A drugs, using fake ID, and driving while disqualified and uninsured.
Multiple Jail Sentences and Driving Ban
Gyaurov was remanded in custody. On 18 September 2023, he pleaded guilty to drug supply and was sentenced to three years behind bars. He also got four months for driving offences, served concurrently.
On 11 April, at Guildford Crown Court, Gyaurov admitted possessing fraudulent identity documents and driving over the drug limit. He received a 14-month sentence for fake documents and a 3-month concurrent sentence for drug driving.
The 14-month term starts mid-sentence, in January 2025. He’s disqualified from driving for 51 months and must pay a surcharge. His fake licence has been destroyed.
