Council Cracks Down on Rogue Landlords
A Greenwich Council spokesperson said: “It’s so important that rogue landlords such as Mrs Yang are caught and prosecuted for unlawfully profiting and misleading their tenants with false information. We urge landlords to stick to good practices for all their tenants.”
The council recently introduced a tough licensing scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). Any property housing three or more separate households sharing facilities now must be licensed, or face fines up to £30,000.
Labour Councillor Ann-Marie Cousins, cabinet member for community safety and enforcement, praised the crackdown: “We’re committed to improving conditions for private tenants and will continue to tackle rogue landlords who risk tenant safety by ignoring licensing rules.”
