AI Snags Sick Sex Offender Red-Handed
In a stunning breakthrough, AI technology nabbed Thomas Young, 34, a registered sex offender caught viewing indecent images of children. The e-safe global software, installed on Young’s phone, uses artificial intelligence to spot and screenshot suspicious activity.
Shocking Images Found on Telegram
On 15 March, the software flagged two indecent category C images. Just three days later, it caught Young with four more plus a category A image — the most serious — of a girl aged 12-14, all accessed via Telegram.
Young had been deleting and reinstalling the app 12 times between 11 February and 18 March, raising alarm as this came right after he was handed a suspended prison sentence for similar crimes.
Repeat Offender with Long Rap Sheet
A decade ago, Young was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for inciting a girl under 13 to sexual activity. He was slapped with a strict Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) restricting his online behaviour indefinitely.
- Young breached the SOPO twice — once in 2023 and again in early February — resulting in a suspended jail sentence.
- Despite being spared prison, he broke the order again soon after.
- He also failed to disclose two active online usernames, another serious breach.
Cold, Hard Justice: 18 Months Inside
At court, Young admitted making indecent images, breaching SOPO restrictions, and flouting notification rules. His lawyer claimed loneliness and cocaine use influenced his crimes.
Judge Nicholas Barker handed down an 18-month jail sentence. Young also faces new tough court orders, including strict online restrictions and mandatory regular updates to police for the next 10 years.
AI Proves Powerful in Protecting Kids
This landmark case showcases how cutting-edge AI technology is revolutionising the fight against child exploitation. Tools like e-safe global software are vital weapons to catch offenders and keep vulnerable children safe.
