Cannabis Kingpin Nabbed After Massive Rugby Grow-Op Bust
Erin Mamli, 26, with no fixed address, has been slammed with a 14-month prison sentence at Warwick Crown Court for running a massive cannabis farm. The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, May 14, following Mamli’s guilty plea back in March for cannabis production.
Police Raid Leads to Dramatic Chase
The drama kicked off in March after cops received a tip-off about a possible cannabis grow at a property on Claremont Road, Rugby. On arrival, officers were hit by the unmistakable smell of skunk and heard the buzzing of fans used to keep the illegal crop thriving.
When officers tried to speak to the occupant, Mamli made a run for it but was quickly caught. Inside the house, police discovered a high-tech operation spanning five rooms—including the basement and loft. A whopping 209 cannabis plants were seized, with an estimated street value of £125,000.
Police Warn of Cannabis Crime Dangers
“This conviction is a major blow in our fight against local drug distribution,” said Detective Constable Matt Rapkins of the Rugby Serious and Organised Crime Team. “Thanks to vigilant community members reporting suspicious activity, we were able to shut down this dangerous grow-op.”
Rapkins highlighted the darker side of cannabis farming, linking it to rises in violent crime, antisocial behaviour, and exploitation of vulnerable people. He warned the public not to underestimate cannabis crimes, as those behind them often run organised, ruthless operations profiting at others’ expense.
Community Urged to Report Suspicious Activity
Residents are urged to keep an eye out for signs of cannabis cultivation and report anything suspicious to Warwickshire Police via their website or by calling 101. For those wanting anonymity, tips can be given confidentially to Crimestoppers, helping the police crack down on organised crime without fear.
As Mamli begins his stint behind bars, authorities stress that the fight against drug crime in Rugby is far from over—and they need the public’s help to stay ahead of the criminals.
